In depth

Verdict

A very moderate handicap and one where VALFURVA may well be good enough on her first try in this sphere, while Darcey is not one to dismiss lightly. The latter has been in great form in sellers and claimers so far this season, being placed by Amy Weaver to win three of her last four starts. She was entitled to win her latest Yarmouth outing, but the six length margin she had to spare suggests that from this mark of 71 she should be bang there now returning to a handicap. Valfurva is a filly with an interesting profile. She is related to mile winners and bred to get a shade further in time, but this looks ideal for now. She has run with credit here in two of her three runs and that has earned her a mark of 65, so with Kieren Fallon up she might just be able to take advantage. Fire King takes to the Polytrack for the first time from a mark 10lbs higher than his sole success. He will want to make this into a test of stamina to give himself every chance and he was beaten from a lower mark last time, which is a concern. Four Tel is another who is being introduced to Kempton, having twice won at Wolverhampton over 7f. He was comfortably beaten from this mark of 65 on turf at Yarmouth, but trainer Tom Dascombe is now handling him and he has a good record of improving those he acquires from other yards, so a market check is advised. Marmooq is back on the same mark as when winning over course and distance in March and loves this surface, although his poor recent form reflects that of the yard and we will sidestep him on this occasion. Integria may go well at a price, with his stable among the winners in recent days, now that he is stepped up in trip, while Having A Ball is 4lbs higher than when scoring over course and distance in April, though given that his record when fresh is poor, a five month absence means we will take him on. Valfurva is the suggestion to win on her handicap debut.
