Verdict

Trainer Pat Phelan is getting a tune out of his runners at present and he can enjoy more success in the opener here with the well drawn EDE'S DOT COM, while Versaki can prove a tough opponent. The latter sports first-time blinkers here as trainer Ian Williams hopes to arrest a 37lb slide in the weights since the gelding made handicap debut just 14 months ago. He has a good pitch in stall 13 and with the stable flying at present and that headgear a potential plus he may now be capable of going very close. Final Drive will be better suited by this drop back from 10f and ran well here in defeat previously, so from this mark of 55 he can also have a say. Josiah Bartlett, another Ian Williams inmate, won a Lingfield handicap in February, over this trip and from the same mark as today, so also cannot be ruled out of this. Clerical remains a maiden after 14 starts and although his CV suggests otherwise he should really be suited by this longer trip, so we should watch the market for clues. Even so, Ede's Dot Com will be suited by this distance, and stays up to a mile. He has a pitch towards the inside, and races from the same mark as when thereabouts at Brighton last time, so we¿ll take a chance on him.
