Ronnies Lad can make the drop in grade and step up in trip pay off, with Champagne Rossini, Groomsman and Barnbrook Empire all set to run well. This selling contest should be well within the capabilities of Ronnies Lad who stayed on nicely when third at Beverley eight days ago. That was in claiming company and over a furlong shorter than today's trip, so John Norton's inmate appears to have leading claims. Champagne Rossini has yet to open his account but ran his best race for some time when touched off by Toss The Caber at Musselburgh in June. He has since fallen over hurdles at Stratford so is back on the level and could go well. Groomsman was a little unlucky in running at Carlisle last time but was an easy winner of a poor claimer over the course and distance for Hugh Morrison in May. He should be involved along with Barnbrook Empire who is certainly nothing special, but who was only beaten in a photo in a Beverley apprentice handicap eight days ago. They appear to be the main contenders, with preference for Ronnies Lad.
