Verdict

An interesting little contest with the likes of Gavroche, Bailaora, Indian Beau all having shown promise, but a chance is taken with Spin King, now that he steps up in trip. He caught the eye here last month when a staying on sixth, having been hopelessly outpaced, behind Matloob, who has since followed up in a decent contest at Newbury, Valjarv, who then went on to finish third in a Listed contest at Newmarket, the third Menfee went on to win his maiden at Yarmouth, while the fourth Salisbury Plain won his maiden at Redcar. That must have been one of the hottest maidens to have been run so far this season and with this trip expected to bring about further improvement, Spin King looks the one they all have to beat. Gavroche will be all the wiser for his debut at Folkestone, and looks sure to go well, as does Indian Beau, although the latter finished stone last on his debut. He ran well for a long way behind subsequent July Stakes winner Nevisian Lad, and with both the runner-up and third having won since, that form looks pretty strong. Broughton Bounty shaped nicely under tender handling in a Fillies only race at Newmarket earlier this month, but while she is certainly one to keep an eye on, she may do better when she goes handicapping. The main threat could come from Bailaora, who wasn't disgraced in a big field of maidens at Newbury, but while this is a drop in class for him, he may have to play second fiddle to Spin King, who is sure to find improvement for this step up in trip.
