    In depth

    Verdict

To say some of these have been frustrating is a huge understatement, so with that in mind, it might be worth sticking with the improving Bobby Charles, who has far more scope than the majority of the rest. Western Roots is unexposed at the trip and, along with Ejaaz and Sir Hayden, could prove to be dangerous to the selection as things unfold. The last mentioned, as with the likes of Topton and Competitor, is on a long losing run and has thrown away too many chances to considered as a reliable character to give his all in a finish. Whereas Ejaaz had shown virtually nothing before winning over course and distance 10 days ago and it will not be surprising to see him revert to type here. Western Roots is also in danger of becoming disappointing, as his record of three straight narrow defeats hardly bows well for this return to a longer trip. Therefore, we take the view that Bobby Charles is probably the best of poor bunch of options in a race that will not live long in the memory.
