In depth

Verdict

A particularly weak affair with a collection of disappointing performers on show and Dramatic Quest is put forward as the selection in the hope that he retains enough of his old ability to defy top weight. The son of Zafonic was a smart middle distance campaigner at his best a couple of years ago but has been blighted with injury problems almost throughout his career and now seems a shadow of his former self. However, the six-year-old did show that a race of this nature is within his compass when runner-up in a selling hurdle last month and a repeat of that effort makes him the one to beat on a surface that will suit. Mr Sandancer failed to recapture his smart juvenile form last year and is another firmly on the downgrade judged on recent starts. But this represents a further drop in grade and he looks the only serious rival to the selection at the weights. The remainder are very hard to fancy but Lost Spirit is a course and distance winner and represents an in-form stable so may be capable of reaching a place.
