In depth
Verdict
Buckthorn, Cavallo di Fierro and Western Point are the three to look at here with Buckthorn taken to lead them home. Cavallo di Fierro sprang a major surprise here when scoring on his last Flat outing, and although he has been pulled up over hurdles since, this is a weak affair which will not take much winning. Western Point appreciated being stepped up in trip when running a much improved race last time, losing three places in the final stride to finish fourth, beaten a neck. Buckthorn is lightly raced, and showed improved form last time to finish fifth at Windsor, holding every chance only to finish a little one paced. One of the dead-heating winners, Fever, ran well to be second at Epsom in a hot handicap next time, and in the context of this race, Buckthorn looks to have the most solid credentials.
