Verdict
Canary Island was most impressive when winning on his debut and looks set to follow up here at the expense of Kingsgate Bay and Safendonseabiscuit. David Elsworth's youngster laned a five fulong maiden here in good style, he was switched to the centre over a furlong out and the gelding picked in good style to suggest a lot more will be heard of him. The time was also very fast and he doesn't look harshly treated for his handicap debut. Kingsgate Bay goes from strength to strength and carried top-weight to victory in a competitive handicap last time. That was over seven but he is just as effective over this trip and rates a big threat to all. Safendonseabiscuit has a nice weight pull with Kingsgate Bay after finishing under four lengths behind that rival. He is entitled to get a lot closer today and could be set for at least a place. Recent winner Norcroft could prove best of the others, but Canary Island has any amount of scope for improvement and is a confident choice.
