Verdict
A weak contest can go to Fortunate Dave ahead of Gregorian and the four-year-old Magenta Rising. Ian Williams had a winner at Exeter on Tuesday and the yard can pay to follow over the next few weeks. With that in mind, Fortunate Dave is taken to step up on his latest effort, a second to It's Wallace at Huntingdon where he overcame a slight mistake at the last to keep on well. That was over two and a half miles but the drop back in trip will be more in his favour, and kept at this level again, the five-year-old should go close. Gregorian had been in fine fettle before a break, scoring over the course and distance in January, and patently needed his return at Chepstow. He will strip fitter and will be a threat to the selection. Best of the younger brigade is likely to be Magenta Rising who did not get the best of luck in running at Hereford last time when second to Khaladjistan. That was her best effort to date over timber and this former Flat performer can only improve. Polish Legend is worth a mention as well but does not make as much appeal as Fortunate Dave who can make his own luck to prevail.
