In depth

Verdict

Sir William Bruce attempted to make all at Gowran in September but was run out of it close home. He should improve this campaign but may have to give best to the race-fit MOKTAFFY. Dermot Weld's charge was narrowly beaten by the Ballydoyle inmate Sir Lamorak on his reappearance at Dundalk and the winner is now rated 101 after easily landing a Leopardstown handicap. Torino made a promising debut in what looked a strong Cork maiden while Dublin Journal was racing on unsuitable ground last autumn. Port Philip is a half-brother to eight winners including a Grade 1 winner in the USA.
