Verdict
This race has cut up to just five runners but it should still provide a good spectacle, with the vote going to Wilko over Brecon Beacon. Brecon Beacon was second in the Chesham Stakes before going on to get the better of Perfectperformance - a decent winner since - at Newmarket last time. The form looks rock solid and he looks set to run well. However, it is hard to crab the credentials of Wilko, who gained a confidence-boosting win at Yarmouth last time following on from a placed efforts in the Chesham, where he was a head behind Brecon Beacon but is now three pounds better off at the weights, third in the Group 3 Superlative Stakes, and runner-up in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes. Overall, that makes him the one to beat and, as such, he gets the call. The market might provide clues as to which runner will prove best of the rest.
