Verdict
Some well-bred newcomers in opposition and, as ever in this type of event, the market will provide the biggest clues in a race that should produce plenty of future winners. Henry Cecil saddles an exciting prospect in the shape of Akimbo, a Kingmambo half-brother to several winners out of a Prix du Moulin winner. The colt holds entries in both the Champagne Stakes and the Royal Lodge as well as the Derby so is clearly well regarded at Warren Place. John Dunlop's Mukafeh also makes plenty of appeal on breeding being by Danzig out of a smart Pattern winner and also holds an engagement in the Royal Lodge, as does Sir Michael Stoute's well-related debutante Eden Rock. John Gosden has his Manton team in good order and is represented by Quartino, who is from the same family as numerous smart winners and is another with an entry in the Ascot Group 2 event so has to be respected in what should be an informative contest.
