Verdict
The draw is likely to have little effect on the outcome here unless there is some appreciable softening of the ground. So it may pay to look for a pacey individual who can keep tabs with the leaders in the hope of picking them up late-on. There are plenty of candidates on show who fit the bill which does not make it easy for pinning down a selection, but Lord Protector has shown a good mixture of speed and stamina in his races this term and can finally end his long losing run here. The drop back in distance should not be too much of a problem on a track where the ability to see out the trip is paramount and he may well be able to build on his decent effort in the Bunbury cup last time. Magic Rainbow, Tadeo and Beyond Calculation are others to consider out of the more established sprinters.
