In depth
Verdict
A rather disappointing turn out for the most valuable race on the card and this looks a good opportunity for Tedstale to regain winning ways at the main expense of Adobe while Blythe Spirit and Ho Leng are others to consider. Tim Easterby's charge made a winning seasonal reappearance over course and distance before running a highly creditable fourth in the Thirsk Hunt Cup despite missing the break. The son of Irish River failed to handle testing conditions at Haydock last time and the run is best ignored but has conditions in his favour and is taken to defy top weight. Adobe ended a longish losing sequence when scoring at Bath last month but had nothing to spare and, following a subsequent 6lb rise, looked firmly back in the handicapper's grip at Ripon next time. Blythe Spirit remains relatively lightly raced but has shown his best form over shorter and still looks high enough in the weights while Ho Leng should relish the conditions and is just 1lb higher than his last winning mark but didn't show enough on his recent reappearance to warrant support next time.
