Few can be seriously considered in a moderate event and the vote goes to Proud Native ahead of Torrent while Shady Deal and Diamond Ring both have place prospects. The David Nicholls-trained veteran is not the force of old but has a BHB rating of 85 and always has to be considered at this level. The son of Imp Society landed two claiming events at Sandown and Bath last term and was beaten by the draw when first home on the far side in a similar event at Doncaster last month. The nine-year-old is well treated by the race conditions despite conceding weight all round and should prove hard to beat under Alex Greaves. Torrent ran above expectations when a staying-on fourth in a useful handicap at Musselburgh last weekend but was possibly flattered off a feather weight and is on a losing sequence stretching back to September 2000. Diamond Ring also makes a quick reappearance after a respectable third in a Leicester seller on Monday while Shady Deal is a consistent sort at this level on turf and will be sharper for his recent pleasing return at Carlisle last month.
