In depth
Verdict
Presumptive is very lightly raced for a four-year-old and can land this valuable handicap from St Pancras and Gift Horse. Roger Charlton's colt is superbly bred by Danehill out of a Machiavellian mare and finally started living up to that pedigree with an excellent effort behind Flowerdrum in a competitive race at Salisbury. He looked the likelier winner in that event after putting in a strong run inside the final furlong , having been slightly outpaced at halfway. It was a very pleasing handicap debut and he can only improve. Gift Horse has been placed in two decent handicaps recently and will be difficult to keep out of the frame again. St Pancras took advantage of a dipping handicap mark to record a victory in a Bath handicap last time. On his best form he is still very well treated and can take a hand in the finish here. Hat-trick seeking Oh Boy could be best of the others, but Presumptive is less exposed than most and gets the verdict.
