Verdict
A smashing opener and a tight affair, with our vote going to Mahmoom ahead of Nights Cross, Traytonic, Alderney Race and Khabfair. Traytonic is now six-pounds higher in the weights than when scoring at Haydock in June on good to soft going but was just under three lengths behind Alderney Race at Newmarket last time but is now eight pounds better off at the weights. Mahmoom was beaten three-parts of a length by Alderney Race on that occasion and Valjarv just under two lengths, and the pair are five and six-pounds better off, respectively, today. Spliff was further down the field on that occasion but could improve, particularly if it becomes testing at the track. Nights Cross appeared to improve behind One Cool Cat at The Curragh last time, where headgear helped and the handicapper is starting to relent with him after a good juvenile season. Khabfair is one-pound better off for the half-length that separated him and Alderney Race at Ascot last Saturday and it should be close between them again. Lake Garda is on the upgrade but has a further rise to defy to score here, and this would be the toughest assignment he has so far faced, although the going will present no problems. Mix all of this into the pot and it brings us back to Mahmoom.
