Verdict
Quite a competitive race with the vote going to Race The Ace over Mamcazma and Land 'n Stars. Looking at the field. Teresa, Bill Bennett and Linens Flame are closely weighted on their Newbury efforts seven days ago and, while they are clearly in good heart, that was a tough race on testing going and it will be interesting to see how they have come out of it. Do not rule out a good run from Patrixprial, who is lightly raced, not far above a winning mark, acts on the going and will probably appreciate stepping up in distance today. From the John Dunlop stable (they also saddle Teresa here) Race The Ace is very interesting. He has the profile of an improver and his second to the progressive Trilemma last time reads very well in the context of this race and we fully expect him to go well. San Hernando won an amateur event last time and more is needed today. Laggan Bay is now back to a winning mark but has yet to prove he stays this far and, much as he finished in front of Mamcazma at Newmarket in July, that gelding has since improved for today's type of trip, including when just touched off by Escayola at Ascot last time. Given that he has won from a higher mark than today, and that he also clearly comes here in good heart, he holds solid claims. Using Escayola as the form benchmark, Land 'n Stars, who was sixth in the Cesarewitch last time out, is closely weighted with Mamcazma. Bid For Fame is well weighted based on his 2002 form, while Dr Sharp is entitled to make the frame. Putting all of this into the mix, though, and we will side with Race The Ace.
