Verdict
The expected fast pace will suit 2006 winner Reverence, who is selected ahead of Sonny Red, while Strike Up The Band is taken to be the best of the rest. Reigning Monarch, El Potro and Prigsnov Dancer have no chance of the official ratings and their presence in the line up add nothing to the value of this competition. Strike Up The Band is at least Listed class when he gets it right but his inconsistency is a worry. He was well beaten in the Cammidge Trophy on his reappearance and needs to step things up several notches before he can be confidently selected. Sonny Red was a close second in that race at Doncaster and will be a big threat if he runs up to form. Richard Hannon¿s charge was just ahead of the selection when they met at Ascot last season but faces a stiff test off level weights. Therefore, it can pay to stick with Reverence, who will like the conditions and is expected to be too hot to handle if he sets off at his customary rate of knots.
