In depth
Verdict
A big field for the feature race of the day, but we can narrow this down to a select few, headed by Cotton House. The Channon yard are in flying form so far and as long as the rain does not come by the bucket load then this mare should be seen to good effect. A first-time winner at two, three and four years of age, she is best caught fresh and as this is her ideal trip she is taken to give weight away all around and score here. Wunders Dream receives 5lb from the selection and if this were over the minimum trip then she would look very well in. However, her reappearance was not that encouraging, but even less so is this step up to 6f, over which she still has plenty to prove. Golden Nun has no such stamina doubts, having scored twice over this trip already. Improving significantly on her reappearance, the three-year-old ran Judhoor to half a length at Ripon last time and further progress is anticipated here. She won't mind any rain to ease the ground and can give the selection most to do. An unknown quantity here is Hancora, who makes her British debut after performing well in France, winning her last two starts as a two-year-old. Sir Mark Prescott's filly merits respect and the market should be some sort of guide to her chances. Barry Hills send up Fancy Lady, who also has to come into the reckoning judged on her two wins at this trip last year, including a three-and-a-half length defeat of Judhoor at Newmarket. The filly did not look quite ready when reappearing over 7f at Newbury last time, but should be straighter for that effort and should put up a bold showing.
