In depth

Verdict

Jewelled Dagger, Fragrancy and First Buddy are the shortlisted trio here, with Fragrancy taken to continue Michael Jarvis' fine run of form. Four time winner Jewelled Dagger has finished second in both his starts to date, having turned in solid efforts. He is a consistent type but the handicapper may have his measure and he is taken on with this contest looking tougher. Three time Flat winner First Buddy has looked an improved performer on the level so far this year, with two wins to his credit, after a successful hurdling campaign. He is 12 pounds higher here though than when last successful and he too is taken on. Fragrancy has three wins to her credit, including a win here at the end of last season. She shaped well on her re-appearance in a hot Ascot handicap, keeping on well in third. Unlike some of her rivals she looks well treated, running off the same mark here. Fragrancy can win this prestigious and valuable prize with Philip Robinson on board.
