Verdict
With a draw next to either rail a distinct advantage, and a high draw generally preferable to a low draw, CD Flyer gets the vote over Machinist and Jonny Ebeneezer. The last mentioned has been in the form of his life of late but has paid the penalty at the hands of the handicapper as a result and has more to do under a 4lb penalty following his latest success at Windsor on Monday. Machinist has to be respected given trainer David Nicholls' fine record with sprint handicappers but lack of form on a soft surface is of concern. Dazzling Bay has plenty of weight to carry and under these conditions that may prevent him form continuing trainer Tim Easterby's fine recent record. Last year's winner Hidden Dragon has probably been laid out for this and can race off the same mark as 12 months ago but is another who has yet to prove his effectiveness on a soft surface. Among those drawn low David Barron's three-year-old Partners in Jazz is open to improvement and makes more appeal than another lightly-raced runner Mutawaqed. Another inmate from the stable of David Nicholls, Pieter Brueghel, and another Easterby runner, Artie, are others to consider but the vote goes to CD Flyer. Brian Ellison's seven-year-old is well served by cut in the ground, comes here in fair form, on an attractive mark and has a good draw in stall 21. He should give backers a good run for their money.
