Verdict

The card finishes with another small field, but this time there should be a truly run race and Victory Quest, who put up a much-improved performance on his handicap debut, is fancied to defy a penalty at the main expense of Kartuzy and Coolbythepool. Kartuzy can make the pace and was an impressive winner on her handicap bow at Yarmouth last week. Michael Jarvis' filly is unexposed at this trip and seems sure to go well despite a five pound penalty. Coolbythepool can also make the running and is a fairly consistent performer who cannot be discounted, but preference goes to Victory Quest. John Hills' colt improved significantly with the assistance of a first time visor when getting off the mark in a maiden handicap last time out at Goodwood. This looks a slightly tougher contest but the drop in trip should not be a problem and a five pound penalty may not be enough to stop him from following up here.
