Verdict

There is a distinctly precocious element in the pedigree of Final Salute, who is selected ahead of Grand Stitch and Cutting Comments. The last named caught the eye on debut at Pontefract in April but struggled to build on that effort when he went to York three weeks ago. This is a slightly weaker race but he does have improvement to find. Grand Stitch ran a solid race when he was introduced at Newmarket last month and, with the form working out well, he has got to be respected. His trainer, Paul Blockley, is struggling for winners at the present time, though. And it may be best to gauge the interest of the betting market before wading in with this son of Grand Slam. The Tim Easterby-trained Lost In Paris also makes some appeal on breeding and is worth a cautionary look in the betting. Even so, Easterby's runners do traditionally benefit from an outing, so he may be best watched on this occasion. Therefore, with Bryan Smart's youngsters flying at the present time, Final Salute gets the nod on this occasion. The son of Royal Applause is out of an Ayr Gold Cup winner and is certainly bred to be effective at the trip.
