In depth

Verdict

A good contest here and one that can be taken by Abraxas Antelope, with Dario Gee Gee and Reqqa others for the short list. Abraxas Antelope was fancied to win at York last time by trainer Howard Johnson, after winning at Hamilton and then on good to soft at Doncaster earlier in the season. Perhaps cutting out much of the donkey work at the Knavesmire was the reason for that latest defeat, but he possesses a deal of ability and handles the ground, so we can forgive him that latest run and he can score. Dario Gee Gee finished behind the selection at Doncaster and there is no reason so suggest that it will be any different here. Now 3lb worse off, he does at least have a course and distance win under his belt to add some confidence, but it will be a surprise if he finishes better than a place. Of the others, Reqqa put a green debut behind him to win on fast ground at Pontefract last time and if he can handle cut then he should also be on the premises, but we will have to wait and see what happens in that regard, and so we will stick with Abraxas Antelope to take this decent prize.
