In depth

Verdict

A high draw could be the key to this so Ballybeg is selected ahead of Hope's Eternal and Dark Islander. Ballybeg was sent off as a favourite for a nursery at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. That was probably as a result of a fair seventh in what appeared to be a fairly hot Newbury maiden. With the draw at a premium at this track, we are prepared to gamble that his race fitness will be enough to see him through here. This trip might be on the sharp side for Hope's Eternal. He is of a stout staying pedigree but his stable have sent out plenty of juvenile winners of late so a market perusal is recommended. Dark Islander was not totally unfancied before a debut on the Lingfield surface. Related to a number of American winners, he does have an unfavourable draw to contend with on this occasion. Expensive Problem boasts course form having finished fourth in a six furlong maiden. Willie Muir is having a better-than-average season with his juveniles so the sharply bred Red Warning is closely monitored. The remainder of those to have raced appear moderate. Not a lot to go on but we will chance Ballybeg on his third racecourse start.
