Alexander James returned a shock 33/1 winner at Southwell on his debut with the rest nowhere. It’s difficult to get a handle on just what he achieved but we’ll know more today conceding weight to EMIRATES KNIGHT (NAP). The latter has an official rating of 89 after finishing nine lengths clear of the rest when narrowly beaten at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago and Roger Varian’s yard is firing in the winners. Trinity Lake made a winning start at Wetherby, with Power Player well beaten, but steps up in trip and the Saeed bin Suroor duo, Military Tactic and Mohareb, showed little on their respective debuts. Kung Fu also never figured at Newmarket last month but can only do better.
