Verdict
Plenty of deadwood to sift through and only a tentative vote of confidence is given to Grandad Bill, who is just preferred to Green Pirate and Smart Pick. Terenzium also ran encouragingly last time out and is one for each-way punters to bear in mind. However, like a host of the others, the Micky Hammond-trained gelding is yet to really convince on turf and his claims have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Smart Pick - although a long standing maiden - has the ability to figure strongly in this company and has a solid chance of at least making the frame if he runs to the best of his recent form. Tolly Dean helps his cause with a 5lb claim and a big run can be expected even though Lisa Williamson's yard have struggled to find winners on the Flat for quite some time. Green Pirate is another whose best efforts have been on the All Weather surfaces and he comes here with a little to prove. That said, his turf rating is 9lb lower than that of his AW estimate, so he is no forlorn hope on these terms. However, Grandad Bill - a course winner as a juvenile - has a more convincing profile on grass and, having shown signs that he is on the way back with an encouraging effort at Yarmouth when he was last seen out, he can start to pay his way again if the switch to Jim Goldie's yard has rekindled his interest.
