In depth

Verdict

Unbreak My Heart shaped encouragingly on his debut at Newmarket and is fancied to put the experience to good use against this weaker calibre of opponent; Carnival Dream is a consistent type that can make the rest aware of her presence, while Writingonthewall - a 160,000euros purchase - should have learned plenty from his recent introduction and is also worthy of consideration as an alternative. The last named, a son of leading sire Danetime, was not given a hard time when he made his racecourse bow at Haydock earlier this month. However, he can be expected to be sharper for the run and a more accomplished effort would be good enough to see him at least make the frame. It is a concern that Michael Bell's yard only have a modest strike-rate at this course, though. Carnival Dream almost got off the mark at Redcar at the start of August and has maintained a good level of form so far. However, she is beginning to look exposed and is vulnerable to an improver. Which is exactly what she will face in the shape of Unbreak My Heart, who was not beaten far in a hotly contested maiden at racing's headquarters in July. Never one to rush with his sprinters, Roger Charlton has been patient with this son of Bahamian Bounty and, as the form of Unbreak My Heart's debut looks the strongest piece of evidence available at this stage, this appears to be a good bit of placement from the Wiltshire-based trainer.
