In depth

Verdict

An abundance of stamina will be the key to this contest in such conditions and Master Wells can be the one to benefit, with Lucky Judge and Vicar's Destiny to give him most to do. The selection is dropping down the handicap after a succession of defeats, but there was nothing wrong with his length-and-a-quarter defeat by Dr Sharp on soft ground at Chepstow last time. Clearly able to perform from this same mark, and with similar conditions here, he can score. Lucky Judge has won two of his last three starts with cut in the ground, but the handicapper had his measure at Chester last time. He won't find it easy again off this mark, but the ground is to his liking and that may slow others down and give him a chance of picking up some money. Of the others, Vicar's Destiny is running consistently well at around this sort of trip, and he also acts on slow ground, though perhaps not as well as the other pair, and for that reason is passed over in favour of our selection, Master Wells.
