In depth
Verdict
A competitive affair for the money. Deep Water returns to Micky Hammond after an unsuccessful spell with Lenny Lungo. If he has regained any of his old sparkle, he is well-handicapped but the jockey bookings suggest that Ashgar (who has given his riders over fences plenty of brown-britches moments) is the preferred string. Cill Churnain has been in great form over the last couple of months and has taken advantage of a low mark - today's opposition should be too good. Bustling Rio is a likeable sort from the Pat Haslam yard. Were his yard in good form, he would be recommended as the best bet. Mick Easterby sends out his fair share of winners at Wetherby and it is interesting that Gohh is highly tried here on good ground. Stamparland Hill catches the eye on the basis of its jockey booking but he would not want any further rain to fall overnight. The TEAMtalk selection is D'Argent. Alan King's charge was a smart novice last season and there was a lot to like about his resolution in a finish. Currently rated 122, the handicapper has not gone overboard and he should be good enough here. C and D winner, Exstoto is respected off his low weight.
