In depth
Verdict
A very poor contest in which Irish Blessing is only a tentative suggestion over Polished, with Dennis The Mennis and Frankincense put forward as other likely candidates. Irish Blessing does at least have some winning form to his name, as Frank Jordan's charge was successful at Chepstow in similar company to this in March. The step up in trip proved the key to the gelding gaining his first victory since coming over from Ireland, but the fact that he failed to maintain the form of his win over Philippa Yeates next time at Fontwell shows that he is no good thing to oblige. Even so, he makes more appeal than the rest, the best of whom may be Polished who has been running over fences. He is slightly better treated over hurdles than fences, but at the age of nine, is totally exposed. Dennis The Mennis comes from a stable that has been in good form lately, but he failed to defy a rise in the weights at Hexham last time and is another that cannot be relied upon, and in any case is not certain to maintain Sedgefield form over Frankincense on six-pound worse terms. Bets should be kept to the bare minimum, and Irish Blessing is put forward as the pick.
