In depth

Verdict

Headland is a sporting bet to land today's event at the expense of St Ivian and Val de Maal. Although an infrequent winner, Headland is not without ability and consistency is his strong suit. He invariably is capable of giving a good account of himself when giving weight away to weaker opposition and he should do so today in spite of a draw of stall ten. St Ivian is a much better horse on artificial surfaces than his turf work suggests. 9lb lower than at this time last year - Seb Sanders is an interesting booking. Supporters of Val de Maal will be hoping that Lord Of The East can frank recent Wolverhampton form with a good performance in an earlier race this afternoon. Fulvio won here in banded grade earlier in the season but has shown little of note since. Predictably there are many imponderables in this race but Headland's previous shows at this level entitle him to consideration from a punting perspective.
