In depth

Verdict

Cold Turkey can make the most of the weight that he receives from Compton Bolter, with Garden Society and The Violin Player two others to note. Cold Turkey was a prolific winner on the all-weather last year, but has struggled to make the same impact off his higher mark. However, Gary Moore's versatile campaigner showed renewed vigour when duly making a successful debut over hurdles at Plumpton last month, and was a rather cosy winner despite the margin of just a head. That at least shows that he is not to be written off yet, and he may well translate that form across the codes here. Compton Bolter won the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at Newbury in September, and more recently was third in the Listed Churchill Stakes here over 10 furlongs. He in all truth sets the standard, but will be priced accordingly, and the value lies with Cold Turkey. Of the rest, Garden Society meets the selection on four-pound worse terms after beating him over two miles here the time before last, and The Violin Player figured in a blanket finish when fourth at Wolverhampton, but will need the race to pan out for him to come through late. We reckon that it is worth chancing that Cold Turkey will show that he is not finished on the Flat just yet.
