Verdict
Paradise Isle is selected to make amends for an unlucky defeat last time, with Philarmonic and Alice Blackthorn seen as the main dangers. Paradise Isle was fully expected at Newcastle, having finished second on her debut to Noyac in a race at Newmarket that has thrown up lots of winners. As is so often the case when something has the look of a good thing, something came along to foil punters, and it came in the shape of 100-1 shot Coxmoore, who picked off Chris Wall's filly inside the final furlong. Her draw did not help as she had to track over from the wide outside, and could have done with covering up a bit more. Coxmoore showed that result was no fluke though when beating an odds-on shot next time, and Paradise Isle is all set to make amends here. Philarmonic has scope to progress, having finished an encouraging and close second to subsequent Redcar winner Wanchai Lad at Ripon on his debut, and Richard Fahey's gelding looks a banker for the frame. The other to make a not of is Alice Blackthorn who put in her best effort to date at Nottingham, but is held by the selection on Newcastle running. the market should tell us if any of the others are fancied, but if there is any justice, Paradise Isle should come good.
