Verdict
Just the 20 tackle the Coral Sprint Trophy, and it is with no great conviction that Compton's Eleven is chosen to give Mick Channon another success in the race, with Mutawaqed, Smart Hostess, Pic Up Sticks and Fantasy Believer just a few more to consider. Having won this 12 months ago, Mick Channon has leading claims with both his challengers, Compton's Eleven and Pic Up Sticks. The latter returned to form at Ripon when beating Ellens Academy a fortnight ago, but will do well to uphold the form over the third, Smart Hostess on revised terms. John Quinn's mare is relatively lightly-raced compared to a lot of these and should not be ruled out. However, Compton's Eleven has been a model of consistency, but has been hard to win with due to his handicap mark. He is as game as they come though and deserves to win a race of this nature. Mutawaqed was third last year and is holding his form well, having finished fourth in the Ayr Gold Cup. He is yet another to note along with Smart Hostess's stablemate Fantasy Believer who has the ability to land a big handicap, although he has been on the go all season. Tom Tun is as tough as old boots and Partners In Jazz is at the right end of the weights and will find conditions better than behind Eisteddfod at Haydock. Jonny Ebeneezer ran on well at Newmarket last time and is the mount of Frankie Dettori so cannot be discounted either, but in what is a real puzzle as usual, Compton's Eleven is lumbered with the vote.
