Verdict
Airwave can prove that she is truly back to her best by landing the Nunthorpe from One Cool Cat and The Tatling. Henry Candy's filly has not been profitable to follow this term, but remains a high-class individual with a solid portfolio that includes the Cheveley Park and the Temple Stakes. Her confidence will have been boosted by a recent return to form in Listed company at Ayr, and as she acts on the prevailing going, it would be no surprise if she captured this prestigious prize. One Cool Cat has silenced his detractors of late thanks to a drop in trip, but this will be only the second time that he has raced over the minimum, and he has only encountered good ground or faster so far during his career. However, the stable's other Nunthorpe winners, Stravinsky and Mozart, were also turned into sprinters after being campaigned over a mile, so he will have plenty of support no doubt. The Tatling meanwhile is a class act himself and will be bidding to go one better than last year. Now aged seven, he had the speed to land the King Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, but again the question mark is his ability to handle today's conditions. Others to note include Avonbridge, a half-brother to Patavellian who wears blinkers for the first time, and Balmont, successful here in the Gimcrack last year and who will handle the conditions. A cracking race in store as usual then and one in which Airwave can add to Henry Candy's previous victory two years ago with Kyllachy.
