In depth
Verdict
David Nichols would dearly love to win this event and from his many entries, Lord Of The East is selected over American Cousin, Blackheath, Endless Summer and Native Title in a hard one to call. The race is named in honour of Sarah Lunn who was a key figure in the success of Nicholls' stable at Sessay, near Thirsk, being the trainer's very popular secretary until her untimely death last October at the age of 32. So, we can be pretty sure that one of Dandy's will prevail, but which one do we go for? Well, with Lisa Jones in good form and able to claim three pounds, it could be that Lord Of The East will be the answer. The five-year-old was just touched off in an amateur riders' race at Hamilton three weeks ago in unsuitably soft ground, but all his four career victories at Epsom have been on lightning fast going in the past. They were all gained when he was with Ken Cunningham-Brown and, significantly, Lisa was on board on the last two occasions. She sits on him for the first time since and is sure to want to keep up the record. American Cousin and Native Title look the best of the stable's other runners, but the spoke in the wheel may be Endless Summer who has shown enough in the past to be worth a mention. With form and ground to back him up though, Lord Of The East is the pick.
