The feud between Steve Austin and Vince McMahon was a cornerstone of the Monday Night Raw success story in the late 1990s.

The programme, which pitted the 'everyman, blue collar' Austin against his overbearing and bullying boss McMahon was a big hit with audiences for their ability to relate to it, and the huge charisma of the pair involved.

McMahon was playing off the character he had inadvertently created during the so-called Montreal Screwjob, the corporate tyrant who was only too willing to wage war against his employees.

Austin was the beer-swilling 'Texas Rattlesnake' on the receiving end in a feud which was so successful that many have cited it as among the best in the history of wrestling.
