In depth
Verdict
Pertemps Magus has been a little disappointing of late but gets the vote here at the main expense of Fair Shake, Roman Maze, Branston Tiger and Merdiff. The selection is from an in-form yard and is well drawn, and although he has performed below expectations on his last two starts he is given another chance to repay his supporters. Fair Shake rates the main danger on his recent second behind the well-backed Trojan Flight. That was a really sound effort and if he reproduce that level of form here from a decent draw then he will not be far away at the finish. Roman Maze had no luck in running behind Hazewind last time so could be worth giving another chance to. However, he does have a tendency to find at least one too good and for that reason he is passed over. Branston Tiger is a game sort who is in good form and he has been knocking on the door recently, so it would be dangerous to dismiss him in his current vein of form. Merdiff ran well on one of his favourite track's Chester last time to confirm his well-being, but he is probably better over slightly further and for the winner we return to Pertemps Magus.
