    Verdict

A two-and-a-quarter mile maiden handicap is not for the faint-hearted with Hoh Nelson given a tentative vote but Sadler's Pride, Fu Fighter and Calomeria have also to be considered in a weak race. The selection is untried beyond 12 furlongs but, on breeding, the distance could well suit, and he showed enough at Ripon in April over a mile to suggest he has ability. This race will not take a lot of winning and, particularly if he attracts market support, he could be the one. The same trainer also runs Olympias, who is open to improvement at today's trip and would be an appropriate winner at this time although, on jockey bookings, the selection looks the better fancied. Sadler's Pride is lightly raced and holds chances based on his Nottingham run in May, where he proved he acted on good to soft, while a market move for Assoon could be interesting as he hails from a canny yard and holds a chance based on his form of last year. Fu Fighter has also shown enough at up to 14 furlongs and on good to soft to be given place claims, and Calomeria has improved for blinkers of late and is another that could bag some place money. Heart Of Springs seemed to improve on the all-weather last time and, lightly raced, could improve again, and Bakhtyar is another to have improved for the application of shades of late and might also run into a place. In what is, as we say, not the strongest event in the world, Hoh Nelson might just provide the answer.
