FRONTIERSMAN comes out best on these terms having proved an earlier second to Highland Reel at Epsom was no fluke when going close again behind stablemate Hawkbill in a Group 2 at Newmarket. His ability to handle soft ground has to be taken on trust but that applies to most of these including Poet's Word, narrowly beaten by Deauville in the Huxley at Chester back in May with Snoano well beaten. The latter has subsequently beaten last year’s third Majeed in a Listed race over 1m2f with Scarlet Dragon further behind. Second Step won a Listed contest over track and trip before beaten a neck by Lord Yeats at Newmarket and the latter had won easily in soft ground at York earlier so could go well again today. Crimean Tatar ran well in the John Porter at Newbury earlier but was never at the races behind Dartmouth in the Yorkshire Cup last time.
