      In depth

      Verdict

Ink Spot deserves to get his head in front having found one too good in each of his two starts this season but Michael Bell's gelding may have to settle for minor honours again, with preference for Cape Vale who gets the vote over Premier Danseur. The last mentioned ran better on his return to turf at Warwick on Monday when finding just Indian Diva too good and Mark Johnston's colt should be thereabouts again racing off the same mark today. Paul Cole's Desert Clover and Ralph Beckett's Mullein are less exposed than most of these but need to improve on all known form to trouble the judge off their current handicap marks. It will be interesting to see how the market shapes up for Kevin Ryan's Minus Fifteen on his handicap debut but the safest option looks to be Cape Vale. David Nicholls has made a decent start to the season, particularly with those that have had the benefit of a run, so there is every chance that the son of Cape Cross will step up on his reappearance run behind Mey Blossom at Thirsk last month. If he does do that, then he could provide Nicholls with another sprint handicap winner.
