In depth
Verdict
Welsh Emperor found just Dabbers Ridge too good on his reappearance at Warwick last month under similar conditions and he gets the vote to go one better today, under the assumption that the ground does not dry out, getting the verdict ahead of Racer Forever and Dubai's Touch. The last mentioned disappointed in the Doncaster Mile on his return to turf but is better than he showed that day and Mark Johnston's colt has to be respected. Linda Perratt's Appalachian Trail has claims on the pick of his form but would probably prefer a faster surface, while Beckermet has the beating of him on Leicester running last month but again may have to settle for minor honours. John Gosden's Racer Forever ran well when chasing home Dark Islander in a decent race on Lingfield's Polytrack last time and has claims on that evidence but a better bet looks to be Welsh Emperor, who gets the vote.
