In depth

Verdict

Another good race on the Haydock card can go to Sands Rising ahead of course and distance winner Pass Me By with Very Optimistic, Noblefir and Sands Rising looking to be the best of the rest. The selection's sets the benchmark for the form really following his Carlisle win on heavy going 16 days ago. He showed some good qualities that day and should go well again. Pass Me By's win on the same going as for today's meeting is a little hard to assess but, with the advantage of fitness on his side, should be up to running well again. Turning to the others. Jonjo O'Neill's good Ascot bumper winner Very Optimistic and Henry Daly's point-to-point winner Lough Dante are interesting while there are runners from the Richard Phillips' and Philip Hobbs stables as well. Noblefir has also to be added into the mix as he was beaten by the subsequent good handicap hurdle winner Overstrand last time and can improve again at this trip. Overall, though, we'll side with Sands Rising.
