        Verdict

        True Companion gets a narrow vote over the likes of Quantum Leap, Sammy¿s Shuffle, Kyle of Lochalsh and Balerno. True Company has been hard to win with but was ridden by today¿s pilot Jean-Pierre Guillambert when scoring at Newbury the time before last. A mark of 65 proved too much at Redcar last time, but a drop of six pound in the ratings should help his cause in what is not a strong contest. Quantum Leap was good enough to win a class D at York last year, but has lost the winning habit, so it is hoped that the switch to fibresand will revitalize him. Sammy¿s Shuffle has a long absence to overcome but has the assistance of the in-form Ian Mongan, while Kyle of Lochalsh proved that he was no back-number when winning at Goodwood in May. Balerno ran his best race for some time when stepped up to this trip at Newcastle so is another to consider, for place purposes at least, but in a tricky affair, the tentative vote goes to True Companion.
