Verdict
A fairly tight betting heat despite the small field but Grangewick Flight appears to be at the top of his game at present and is taken to defy top weight. The son of Lighter gained due reward for some consistent efforts of late when a decisive winner at Newcastle last week and, with the extra quarter-of-a-mile and testing ground in his favour, he should prove difficult to beat under a 7lb penalty. Shuttleworth has been below his best recently but has strong claims on his placed effort over course and distance in December and is now 9lb lower. Coastguard is becoming well treated on the pick of last year's form so can also be given a chance at the weights but Shining Tyne has been soundly beaten of late and remains a maiden so is readily opposed.
