In depth

Verdict

An ordinary maiden can go to Old Etonian, who gets the nomination over Sowdrey, while Fleetwood Image is selected as the best of the rest. The last named already needs to find improvement and, despite being likely to be suited by the step up in trip, he is far to risky to be recommending as one capable of causing an upset. Sowdrey is also bred to appreciate a test of stamina and is at least capable of making the frame. It would be dangerous to underestimate the form of his latest start and Mick Channon's charge is easily the best alternative to the selection. However, Old Etonian follows a tried and trusted path set out by Mark Johnston and this Sheikh Mohammed-owned colt is strongly fancied to raise his game today.
