Verdict
In a moderate first division of the maiden, Whistful may provide the answer, with Let's Roll, Katie's Role and Silverhay others to consider. Whistful was a beaten favourite at Thirsk on her second start, never threatening to get involved. That was disappointing after her promising debut at Windsor, and she is no good thing to make amends. However, the rest are nothing special and Chris Wall's filly may be up to the task as she should have improved a pound or two. Lets Roll has already been seen twice here, and was a shade unlucky in running on the first occasion. Dean McKeown tried enterprising tactics on his last visit, taking the gelding to race alone on the stands rail, a move that failed to pay off. It is hard to enthuse over him but at least he has course knowledge. Katie's Role was third in a class D contest at Catterick last time, and the faster ground and drop in grade may help her to be in the shake-up. A better candidate for the frame at least though may be Silverhay, whose stable are doing well and had a decent juvenile winner at Hamilton on Monday. Silverhay lost ground at the start on his Carlisle bow over five furlongs, and is bred to appreciate a longer trip anyway. He gets that here and can give Whistful most to do.
