Verdict
A highly competitive opener to start the day and the vote goes to Coalition to hold off Random Quest and Thewhirlingdervish. Sualda would come into calculations having won at Beverley and Chester but he is taking a big step up in trip and is watched on this occasion while Mamcazma appears to be weighted up to the hilt at the moment although he showed his well being by running Mephisto to six lengths at Goodwood. Random Quest ran his best race of the season at Ascot when just touched off by Dorothys Friend at Ascot but earlier efforts were disappointing and it remains to be seen if that was a fluke, whereas Thewhirlingdervish who finished just behind Random Quest at Ascot, has been running consistently all season. The selection however is Coalition who was second to Top Trees at Sandown and had earlier chased home Tudor Bell at Salisbury. Coalition gets the vote.
